04/27/24 Runoff is here!

The Gunnison River, which is born in Almont, CO where the East and the Taylor rivers meet, is in a much earlier runoff stage this year as apposed to last. High temps in the valley had the Gunny over 1600cfs earlier this week, however, it is down to between 1100-1300cfs as a cold front is moving through and slowing the melt. Light rain and snow are in the area for a few days before it worms up again. New high country snow will undoubtedly prolong our runoff season as well. Keep an eye on our live flow reports, listed for each river in our valley that have gauges.

Taylor river anglers are finding fish and much easier conditions as the tail water is flowing at a nice 103 below the dam and 280 down at Almont. Perdigons and baetis emergers along with some dry fly action near the catch and release have fish gliding into anglers nets. BWO patterns including Adams and Mole flies have been productive.
